This section of the A73 motorway is the main commuter feeder for the Nuremberg and Erlangen region. Inbound commuter traffic during the mornings is the main cause for traffic jams and safety problems. Temporary hard shoulder running is a proven solution to relieve heavy traffic during peak hours.
A monitoring system will be installed featuring automatic incident detection. Assisted by more than 40 cameras, the operator will be able to efficiently control and secure this 9 km section.
VIA is responsible for the concept, planning for approval, final design, preparation for tender, supervision and testing of the TMS.
