Congestion management Bavaria
Supra-regional and international traffic guidance system
Bavaria's motorways suffer from high loads of transit and heavy traffic. Road works, accidents or bad weather conditions regularly cause substantial traffic jams which are very prominent during the holiday season. Heavy congestions in this area often have a supra-regional impact on the traffic of adjacent federal German states and Austria. To solve this issue, large-scale Traffic Management Systems featuring alternative route guidance are being installed.
The new system will feature variable display units for supra-regional route guidance. To do so, several subprojects are being combined and realized under the label dNet Bayern (dynamic network management Bavaria).
Special focus is required on the area's most frequented sections, namely the crossing of the Alps via Brenner, Tauern and Pyhrn pass, the long distance link between the Frankfurt, Nuremberg and Munich area, as well as the supra-regional motorways to Berlin, Dresden and Munich. All display units at critical decision points are being integrated into a interregional and international system.
