Traffic management and security system

The TOB (Tunnel Ortsteil Britz) is a 6 lane motorway tunnel on the A100 motorway in Berlin. The 3 km urban tunnel located in a densly populated area. The Traffic Management System (TMS) of this tunnel has been designed for an expected daily traffic volume of 130.000 vehicles. The tunnel is fully equipped with traffic detection, lane signals, variable message signs, stop signals, barriers and automated systems interacting with the tunnel control system. A special feature is the moving barrier system on both ends which allows the quick installation of a contra-flow system in case of maintenance works or incidents. Thus, the traffic can remain on the motorway constantly and diversion through the residential areas around the tunnel can be avoided. VIA services included all stages of planning, design and supervision. The tunnel is in operation since July 2000
