Variable Display Units 'dWiSta'
Motorway A100, A111, A115 Berlin
Dynamic information system based on the German standard for Variable Display Units (dWiSta).
5 Variable Display Units have been installed at important decision points in the urban motorway system of Berlin. Whenever major foreseeable (e.g. maintenance works) or spontanious (accidents) incidents occur, a deviation route can be displayed at these units. The driver's acceptance of this deviation can be increased through additional information on the cause of the respective deviation. The system is meant to assist long-distance traffic on its way through Berlin.
In addition, it can be used to manage traffic caused by special large-scale events through route recommendations to remote car-parks or by informing local drivers about major maintenance works and possible delays.
The system is mirrored by a similar system on the A10, the outer Berlin motorway ring. VIA was responsible for the planning, planning approval, final design, preparation for invitation to tender and supervision of realisation, including tests for the 5 units in Berlin.
Opening for traffic: spring 2006
